03/05/2026  Renal Symposium 2026

National

The management of end-stage kidney disease, particularly dialysis, requires substantial and sustain national investment. Based on 2021 cost estimates for consumables and treatment delivery, the average annual cost of haemodialysis in the country was approximately BND30,000 per patient, while automated peritoneal dialysis was around BND24,000 per patient.

According to the Minister of Health, these costs are no longer static. In the current environment, they are expected to have increased significantly due to global pressures, including supply chain disruptions and rising prices of medical consumables. This upward trajectory is expected to persist, placing continued and growing demands on national resources over time.

Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar shared this matter during the Renal Symposium 2026. Held in conjunction with the World Kidney Day programme, the symposium took place at a hotel in Kampung Anggerek Desa, 3rd May morning.

The Renal Symposium 2026 organized by the Ministry of Health through the Department of Renal Services aims to strengthen awareness, professional education and strategic collaboration in kidney healthcare.

The symposium serves as a major platform to discuss the latest developments in the field of nephrology, management of chronic kidney disease, early intervention strategies as well as strengthening primary care in patient detection and management.
